Salsa Time!

Ugh, it is that time of year again......sicky season. The hubs is just now getting over a cold and here I am, scratchy throat, lack of energy, you know, the typical cold symptoms. Davey immediately starts taking cold pills as soon as he starts to feel even the slightest inkling that he is coming down with something. Me, on the other hand, wait until it is in full force and kicking my ass before I start to take anything.

With Thanksgiving only a week away, I decided to change things up with this cold. I didn't run straight for the cold pills. Nope, I decided to take my grandpa's advice. You see, my grandpa is a believer in 2 things......whiskey and hot peppers. He believes that those are the cures to everything, and I am starting to believe it as well. He is 81 years young, a smoker, a drinker, and has heart issues.....but he is still kicking (thank the Lord!!!). He is a trooper!!!!

I came home from work last night, went straight for the liquor cupboard, and grabbed out our bottle of Jack Daniels (my grandpa's favorite). I took a shot!!! Blagh! I don't know how anyone can drink that stuff......shoulda stuck with the tequila like I had originally planned on doing. After recovering from that awfulness, I took in to consideration my grandpa's other remedy.....hot peppers. He eats a habanero at every meal.....even breakfast!!! Crazy man my grandpa is!

My dad had given me a bag full of peppers from his garden and I decided to make some salsa with it. What better way to eat hot peppers than to consume some salsa!?!?! So let's just hope this salsa kicks those bugs out of my system!

Habanero Salsa
(adapted by ME!)

INGREDIENTS:

15-20 serrano peppers (I left the seeds in since I like it extra spicy, but you can de-seed them if you like)
1 habanero pepper (Same thing, I left the seeds in, but you can remove them for less of a kick)
6 cloves garlic
1 onion
1 bundle of cilantro (I used the whole bundle)
1 can whole peeled tomatoes

DIRECTIONS:
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until desired consistency. I like a thinner salsa, so I blended it very well.

*If you don't want the salsa as spicy, the habanero CAN be omitted, but then it wouldn't be habanero salsa.... ;)

**Feel free to add and seasonings (salt, sugar, etc) if you would like. This salsa is very tasty just the way it is though!

I at some of this on a couple chips this morning......let's see if my grandpa's remedies will work!!! Wish me luck!!!!

Have a great day all!
